More details

Houston Metropolitan Research Center:

A research library and archives that houses materials such as private & public records, photographs, documents, maps, building plans, journals, oral histories, and books for the study of Houston’s history. We also have a collection of children’s literature from the 1800s to the 1970s, many valuable and rare books, and books on the history of printing. Given how unique many of our materials are, they may not be checked out.

Mayor's Office of Adult Literacy (MOAL):

Housed in the historic Julia Ideson Library and focuses on enhancing adult literacy advocacy and awareness and its impact on our economy, communities, families and individuals. MOAL promotes awareness of, and advocates and builds capacity for, Adult Literacy and Adult Education causes and providers in the City of Houston. The launch of the office was made possible by a generous grant from the CITGO Petroleum Corporation. Visioning and oversight of MOAL and its operations is administered by the Houston Public Library, based on the Mayor’s charge.
